General Info and History
 

Schönbrunn Palace is one of the most famous landmarks in Vienna and was registered as UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage in 1996.

 

This palace used to be the summer residence of the Habsburgs. It was renovated into its present form during the reign of Maria Theresa. Empress Elisabeth, nicknamed Sisi, also lived here.

 

The exterior of the palace is decorated in Baroque style, while the interior is magnificently furnished in Rococo style. Behind the palace, the vast French garden stretches 1.2 km from east to west and 1 km from north to south.
