The palace was originally the residence of the Duke of Eugen, who served the Habsburgs.

As Belvedere means 'beautiful view', the palace has a garden of sheer beauty, and the buildings are famous for being masterpieces of Baroque architecture.

The Upper Palace is used as the Austrian Museum of Fine Arts and is also famous for housing Klimt's 'The Kiss', and if you get married in the Octagon Room of the Upper Palace, you can have your photo taken in front of the Kiss after the ceremony.
